Long's Chapel Church came into being in 1887 when a group of men, women and children met to worship in a one room school house on the old L.M. Johnston farm, (one half mile east of the site of the present church.) In the spring of that year they asked Dr. William S Long, from Graham N.C., a great preacher and educator, to come and preach for them. On that afternoon the congregation made plans to build a Christian church and call it Long's Chapel, after Dr. Long.
He remained with them for about two years preaching every first Sunday of each month. In the Fall of that year they moved into a one room structure and it was said to be a great day and everyone shouted for joy. It was considered to be a fine church for that time. Through the years additions were made to this building to meet the needs of the congregation. In 1962, they moved into its present brick building which includes a beautiful sanctuary for worship service with ample room for Sunday School education and fellowship.
In the early years, the church was a member of the Congregation Christian Church and later merged into the United Church of Christ. In 2005, the church became an independant and is now called the Long's Chapel Christian Church.
